INTERVIEW
THE
ROCK: Who is Nanette Carey; tell
us something
about you?
Carey: My name is Nanette
Carey, and I currently
reside in Los Angeles, CA. I am an entrepreneur having
left corporate America in January. I look forward to
this new journey in working for myself and building
a
business.
THE
ROCK: Where are you from and currently
residing?
Carey: I was born in Reno,
NV, raised and lived in
Shreveport, LA, San Francisco, CA, and Los Angeles,
CA. I’ve resided in Los Angeles, CA since 1983.
THE
ROCK: Could you give us your job
title and a short
description of your responsibilities?
Carey: I am the owner of
Infinite Companies, Inc., a
company that assist future business owners to
incorporate their business to protect their assets and
lower their taxes.
THE
ROCK: How long have you been doing
this type of
work?
Carey: I have been performing
paralegal duties for
over ten years and have worked with various companies
(private companies and law firms) as a Corporate
Paralegal.
THE
ROCK: Are you experiencing job
fulfillment, and
what type of gratification do you get at the end of
the day?
Carey: Yes, I am experiencing
fulfillment in what I'm
doing. I can’t imagine why I stayed in corporate
America for so long before stepping out on faith! I
feel a great sense of freedom in being able to do what
I love doing while helping others.
THE
ROCK: What college(s) did you attend,
and what was
your major?
Carey: I wasn’t able
to go to college right after high
school, but I did eventually. I went while working
full-time. I went to West Los Angeles College and
majored in business, UCLA for my paralegal
certificate and Pepperdine University for my
bachelor’s degree in Business Management.
THE
ROCK: What are some of your personal
achievements?
Carey: It’s hard
for me to talk about my achievements
because I look at it as survival and something that
I
had to do to become a productive adult. I would say
my
personal achievement is that I came to Los Angeles at
seventeen on a Greyhound Bus, made it through
corporate America, put myself through college, and now
I have my own business.
THE
ROCK: What are some of your professional
achievements?
Carey: My main professional
achievement is being the
owner of my own company! I made accomplishments while
working with others in the legal and real estate
fields, but being able to do my own thing surpasses
having formed over 1,000 entities and closing million
dollar loans. The peace of mind I have now is
priceless!
THE
ROCK: What books do you recommend
for
self-enhancement?
Carey: I’m currently
reading The Dream Giver by Bruce
Wilkinson. It’s about leaving the ordinary and
land of
the familiar and going for your dream. My other recent
reads were Success Never Smelled So Sweet: How I
Followed My Nose and Found My Passion by Lisa Price,
owner of Carol’s Daughter and Sweet Expectations
by
Michele Hoskins of Michele Foods, Inc.
THE ROCK:
Who are some of your personal heroes and/or
heroines?
Carey: My personal heroine
is my mother. In raising
me, I saw what faith in God, resilience, perseverance,
and survival truly is and how being responsible and
forward thinking would get you through anything.
THE
ROCK: What career goals did you
set for yourself?
Carey: My goals are to
continue to grow my business
and help others start theirs. I’d also like to
use my
business as a vehicle to help our youth... mainly our
young men.
THE
ROCK: What were your parents like
when it came to
education and choosing a career?
Carey: Although college
wasn’t stressed, I knew I’d
better finish high school and be a productive adult
or
else! I was determined to go to college somehow
someway, and my mom was supportive in my quest to
finish college.
THE
ROCK: Any other family members
with college
degrees, and what are they doing today?
Carey: Yes, there are other
college graduates in the
family, and they hold various positions such as
teachers, engineers and managers.
THE
ROCK: Did you play sports growing
up, and were you
a leader as a child?
Carey: Yes, I played junior
varsity basketball,
varsity volleyball, and I long jumped. I was voted
school treasurer. No, I don’t think I was a leader.
THE
ROCK: Do you consider yourself
a leader?
Carey: I never thought
of myself as a leader. I just
do what I like to do. However, I’m told I was
bossy
while growing up!
THE
ROCK: Tell us about your career
field and what is
so interesting about it to you?
Carey: I find corporate
paralegal work interesting
because it fits my personality. You have to be
organized and detailed for the field. I have these
qualities naturally and found this profession fits me
very well, and it gives me a chance to help others.
THE
ROCK: If you had to do something
else for a
living, what would it be?
Carey: Something that would
allow me to travel a lot!
THE
ROCK: If you wrote a book, what
would it be about?
Why?
Carey: If I wrote a book,
it would be about following
your path and not letting others deter you away from
whatever you want to do. I would hope that the book
would motivate others to live their dream.
THE
ROCK: If you could be anybody else
in the world,
who would it be? Why?
Carey: Me! I've grown to
like me, and I wouldn't know
how to be anyone else.
THE
ROCK: If you were the President
of the United
States, how would you handle some of the world crisis
that we are presently involved in?
Carey: I would turn to
God for guidance, and trust in
Him to help me lead the country.
THE
ROCK: What advice would you give
students entering
college?
Carey: I would urge them
to attend college to gain the
team building and theoretical teachings to help them
in practical world. It’s a huge stepping stone
to
their future!
THE
ROCK: If you were a keynote speaker
for a high
school graduating class, what would be your subject
matter?
Carey: The world has a
lot to offer, make the right
choices, and don’t get caught up in today’s
material
world. Make your own future.
THE
ROCK: Thank you Ms. Carey, and
best wishes in all
of your future endeavors.
Carey: Thank you so much
for allowing me to give this
interveiew and share a little of myself with your
readers! Have a blessed one!
