THE
ROCK:
Who is Angela M. Peabody, tell us something about you?
Peabody: I am the author
of the following books:
1.Exiled - Within The Heart of American Society.
2. Unconditional Love.
3. Welfare To Millionaire - Sarian Bouma's Biography.
I just launched my magazine, Global Woman which encompasses
women's stories from all over the world.
THE
ROCK:
Where are you from, and currently residing?
Peabody: I was born and
raised in Monrovia, Liberia, my native country. I immigrated
to the United States in 1980, following a very bloody
military coup d'etat in Liberia. I escaped being killed.
That is what my novel, Exiled is about.
THE
ROCK:
Could you give us your job title and a short description
of your responsibilities?
Peabody: My job title is
Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Eye Images Media,
LLC, the parent company of Global Woman Magazine. Beside
writing my books, I speak at universities and overseas
on women's issues and I publish the magazine.
THE
ROCK:
How long have you been doing this type of work?
Peabody: I have been speaking
for 3 years now and I have been publishing the magazine
since April 2006. I have been a published author since
July 2003 but have been writing since I was a child.
THE
ROCK:
Are you experiencing job fulfillment, and what type
of gratification do you get at the end of the day?
Peabody: I really feel
a great sense of gratification at the end of the day
because I am living my dream, which is working for myself.
I prayed and asked God for this gift of my own business
and He has blessed me with it. It is up to me to make
the best of it and show Him the gratitude.
THE
ROCK::
What college(s) did you attend, and what was your major?
Peabody: My major is Broadcast
Journalism. I attended Columbia University.
THE
ROCK:
What are some of your personal achievements?
Peabody: My personal achievements
are being blessed with 2 wonderful sons who have made
me proud of them, 3 beautiful and healthy grandchildren,
a comfortable home and my own business.
THE
ROCK:
What are some of your professional achievements?
Peabody: Again, my business,
being a published author, keynote speaker in London
where I shared the stage with 2 House of Parliament
members, keynote speaker at Harvard University, etc.
THE
ROCK:
What books do you recommend for self-enhancement?
Peabody: Welfare To Millionaire.
This is a rags to riches story where a woman on welfare
and homeless pulled herself out of both and worked hard
to go on and realize her wealth, including a college
degree. That is good for self-enhancement.
THE
ROCK::
Who are some of your personal heroes and/or heroines?
Peabody: My mother was
one of my personal hero. She was the first woman in
Africa to be elected mayor of a city. My mother-in-law
was also a hero of mine. She was an extraordinary businesswoman.
THE
ROCK:
What career goals did you set for yourself?
Peabody: I set my goal
to someday work for myself and make it very successful
globally. I am not there yet, but I feel like I am a
quarter of the way there.
THE
ROCK:
What were your parents like when it came to education
and choosing a career?
Peabody: My parents insisted
on education. Where I come from, college education is
the end of education (as many degrees as you can get),
not high school. They consider the entertainment industry
and even broadcasting just recreation and not serious
work. They think that we are only playing.
THE
ROCK:
Any other family members with college degrees, and what
are they doing today?
Peabody: Most of my siblings
have bachelor's and master's degrees. Liberians are
expected to excel that way, otherwise it is difficult
to survive in that society.
THE
ROCK:
Did you play sports growing up, and were you a leader
as a child?
Peabody: Actually, I was
not as athletic as my older sister but I ran track,
I did long jump and played a little bit of kickball.
THE
ROCK:
Do you consider yourself a leader?
Peabody: Yes, I consider
myself a leader. I always told my sons to be leaders
and not followers.
THE
ROCK:
Tell us about your career field and what is so interesting
about it to you?
Peabody: Well, my career
is writing. I love writing. I could write 24-7 and not
tire. What I enjoy about fiction writing is that I am
in control of the creation. I enjoy developing my characters.
Naming them, breathing life into them, giving them characteristics
and personalities and making them believable characters.
That is my favorite part of writing fiction.
THE
ROCK:
If you had to do something else for a living, what would
it be?
Peabody: If I had to do
something else for a living, it would
probably be teaching young children how to read and
write. I prefer the little ones because their minds
are still at virgin stage and I would teach them to
accept their peers, regardless of race, religion, nationality
or physical attributes.
THE
ROCK:
If you could be anybody else in the world, who would
it be? Why?
Peabody: I would still
be myself. I like the way I am. Perhaps blessed with
greater means but I appreciate what God did with me.
My mind, my thought process and my physical attribute
are a blessing from the Almighty and I thank Him.
THE
ROCK:
If you were the President of the United States, how
would you handle some of the world crisis that we are
presently involved in?
Peabody: As President of
the U.S. or any other country for that matter, I would
do my utmost for world peace. There are other ways than
war. I am a peaceful person and avoid confrontations
so I would mediate with dialogue. I realize that it
is difficult but I truly believe that no matter how
stern and awful a person may be, if the mediator is
calm and convincing and sincere, that can go some distance.
Just my thought, not a political advice!
THE
ROCK:
What advice would you give students entering college?
Peabody: After having advised
2 sons who had to go off to college, I would advise
students not to be followers, be leaders and do not
listen to the noise of the market. To be themselves
and do what is going to benefit them in 4 years.
THE
ROCK:
If you were a keynote speaker for a high school graduating
class, what would be your subject matter?
Peabody: My subject matter
to a high school graduating class would be "The
Empowerment of Education".
I
would like to thank Ms. Sammie Ward for suggesting me
as an interviewee. I would like to thank The Rock for
hosting me. You may learn more about what I do from
my website at www.globalwoman-magazine.com.
